  • Your mom was a remarkable woman. I worked with her at the Pumpkin festival at the very beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with her (I learned a lot) and playing Words with Friends, she was an excellent opponent. I respected her and very much admired her strength. I’ll miss seeing her around. Jerilynn Burcroff
  • I am saddened to hear of Debbie’s passing. My sincere condolences to all of her family. I worked with Debbie at RHS. She was so proud of her family. She shared stories of what they were up to. She always thanked me when I asked how Ron was doing. She cried as we honoured her on her last day. She didn’t want to leave, and we didn’t want her to go. I walked with her and Sandy once. I would see them all over, sometimes giving them a honk and a wave, but often stopping and chatting for a wee bit. I was fortunate enough to attend a backyard luncheon that she held for her coworkers when school ended. She was always smiling at work. She was very likable, and everyone liked her. She gave assistance and advise when I filled in as a cashier. I wish I knew Debbie better. She was simply a good human being and I know her family will feel a void without her. RIP Debbie xo Shelley Andrews

  • I was one of the thousands of lives Debbie touched in the athletic arena. First in softball where she umpired many of my games, and in recent years when we refereed volleyball together. She was a lovely woman who truly enjoyed being around our young athletes. She will be dearly missed. Chris Legut
  • What can you say about a person you saw every day during high school. We all walked to school together until Deb got her license. Then she drove us all everywhere. We were on every sport team every year, of course Deb was the best player on the team but she never acted like it, no ego on the court just the spirit for the team to win. When we went to college at EMU we actually teamed up on our biology class. It seemed so natural since we were used to doing almost everything together. Deb was an easy going intelligent woman, very competitive but never spiteful, aggressive but never mean. An adventurous young woman who wasn’t afraid of anything, even failing, which really never happened to my recollection. Deb, we’ll miss you, you’re a shining star, you’re in the big league now. To the family, I’m very sorry for your loss but be assured she’ll be watching over you. D. A. Reid
  • I first met Debbie in 3rd grade at Monroe Elementary. She was the "new girl" in the class. She had the longest, waviest, blonde hair I'd ever seen .We were more together at Franklin Jr. High getting active in sports. This continued on at WMHS. She was our number one player, always pushing and striving. As adults, our lives get busy. But when we did connect at Wayne High get together luncheons, it was as though we'd just seen each other the day before. She will always be a dear childhood friend. My sincere sympathy to the family. • So sorry to hear about the passing of Debbie, she was an incredible person who I enjoyed working with over the years. She touched so many young people lives throughout her years of being an official. She will truly be missed. Mark Woodson
  • Debbie was such a great mentor, friend and athlete. I played softball against Debbie and umpired and refereed with her after college. An absolute gem. She always had a smile for everyone and a word of encouragement. Just a great human being that everyone loved being around. A terrific role model to me and all female athletes. You’ll be missed by so many. My condolences to the family. Kelly Reinink Kelly Reinink
